The Sona story

On a flight to Art Basel in 2021, Jennifer Lee, aka TOKiMONSTA, just happened to sit next to Laura Jaramillo. Jenn was on her way to a gig, while Laura was producing an event for the social community Friends with Benefits.

They got to talking about the problems artists face with music streaming — and bonded over the shared experience of Laura’s mother, who was a musician that never felt fairly compensated for her hard work.

Now, Sona is on a mission to build better music streaming for everyone as part of its vision to build a more equitable, fair and rewarding music industry.

Jennifer Lee (aka TOKiMONSTA) is a Grammy-nominated artist, producer and global Top-100 DJ who has been a pioneer at the leading edge of music since her debut over ten years ago. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, NPR, the BBC and every major music publication, and receives over two million monthly listeners across platforms. Sona is a core part of Jen’s overarching mission to help all musicians own what they do, and do what they love.

Laura Jaramillo, Co-Founder & CEO

Laura’s mission is to give every person in the world the freedom to create without compromise. As Co-Founder and CEO of Sona, Laura and team are redesigning the system by which music is created, collected and consumed so that artists can own what they do and do what they love. Prior to founding Sona, Laura worked in product and design at some of the leading projects in web3, including Upshot, FWB and Dora. She remains an active advisor and investor in many projects at the intersection of music, web3 and the creator economy.
